Ruki sighed to himself as he settled into the slight corner of the rooftop, protected from most of the wind by the adjoining brick walls. Wrapping his arms more firmly around himself, he bitterly wondered why he hadn’t thought to bring a jacket as he gazed up into the star-scattered sky. It was quiet up here, but cool with a bite of wind as his only company aside from the starts. The sky itself was clear, perhaps in anticipation of the festivities to come.
Below he could hear the sound of the parties, of loud music and laughter and free-flowing drink. And as fun as it was to be in the midst of the revelry, he had no taste for it now. It was nearly midnight, time for the last volley of fireworks, and then sleep.
“There you are!”
Whipping around at the sound of a voice, and prepared to yell at whoever had managed to sneak up and scare him, instead he smiled shyly at his companion. He didn’t really have the heart to yell at Reita. “Here I am.”
The bassist grumbled at him, the wind tugging playfully at his open jacket and wreaking havoc with his spiked hair. “Hiding from me, Taka?”
The vocalist rolled his eyes, lower lip jutting out in a pout. “Not very well, if you’re here.”
“Brat…” Reita growled, but he couldn’t quite hide his injured expression at Ruki’s words.
Seeing right through the tough exterior, as he always had, Ruki laughed softly and held out a demanding hand. “Come over here already.”
“Were you hiding, really?” Reita drifted closer.
“Maybe I just wanted to be sure the first person I kiss this year is worth it.” Ruki rolled his eyes, and made another demanding gesture. “Come here, you’re wearing a coat and I’m not…”
“Lucky for you then...” Reita growled at him, drawing him closer with a smile. Wrapping his arms and jacket around the smaller male, he tucked Ruki under his chin. “I found you…”
“That is an excellent start.” As he settled into the warm embrace, Ruki pretended to consider. “I’m glad it was you.”
“Oh?”
“Don’t pretend you’re surprised, jerk.” Ruki growled. “Give me the last kiss of the year, and be ready to be my first for next year. Now that you’ve found me, I’m certainly not going to let you go.”
