My problem with this kind of meme is mostly that I just don't remember what happened this year. There's entries I've been looking at and going 'that was this year?', 'I wrote that this year?' Primeval S2 was on this year, seriously? So now it's last year, and I post this for comparison with the one from 2007, and because otherwise I really would forget what happened from one year to the next.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Move away from home with the intention of it being permanent. That may or may not work out.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made none last year, and I haven't made any this year. No promises I won't keep.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just England and Scotland. And now I'm living in England, so maybe it doesn't count?
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Somewhere slightly more long-term to live.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
22 September I started work, doing Edinburgh with
scrollgirl and getting unbelievably soaked. Doing the beach with
raedbard, and also getting pretty soaked ;) Actually graduating. Oh, the US election I guess.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Moving away, and not immediately running back. Going to my graduation, much as I didn't want to.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Nano, Script Frenzy, wanting to run back home pretty much every day.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope. Other than a number of fairly persistent colds.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Other than DVDs, I didn't buy very much. I like my new black military-esque jacket.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The Flist, as ever. My parents, and my brothers.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
The Yes on Prop 8 campaign, right now I'm still kinda pissed with Obama over the Inauguration.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Moving, flights, DVDs. And, you know, rent and food and bills and stuff.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Dr Horrible, the Edinburgh Festival, Entourage S5.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
'My Eyes' (from the Dr Horrible soundtrack), 'Anyone Else But You', anything from 'Zanna, Don't!'
17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
...happier or sadder: about the same
...thinner or fatter: probably about the same, sadly.
...richer or poorer: much much poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Wrote.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Angsted.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
At home with my family, just for a couple of days.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Entourage. I also really enjoyed Merlin, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Reaper, and Gossip Girl
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.
26. What was the best book you read?
I don't seem to have read very much this year. I read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time. Plus (Sir) Pterry's Nation, and Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
*peers at iTunes* Kimya Dawson and The Moldy Peaches on the Juno soundtrack.
28. What did you want and get?
West Wing DVDs? A jewellery box. Both from my parents.
29. What did you want and not get?
A place on a post-grad course.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Iron Man. Another thing I wanted and got - a kickass Iron Man movie.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 22, and I spent it at home, and at previous job.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
To finish a long writing project.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Lately, lots and lots of black. (Work requirement)
34. What kept you sane?
My little brothers, and the flist. Weirdly, Sky Sports News.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Neil Patrick Harris & Tina Fey. Zach Quinto in all the early Star Trek shots. Kevin Connolly with the beard and the glasses ;)
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop 8, the US election.
37. Who did you miss?
My parents and brothers.
mi_guida.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Everybody who's now on my flist that wasn't this time last year? My workmates are all lovely people too - it's not their fault they work with me.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
I really am perfectly okay on my own, don't lend money, my parents will always be there for me, even when I should be old enough to be better than needing it.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
And sometimes when you're on you're really fucking on
And your friends they sing along and they love you
But the lows are so extreme that the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in its absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile
And you'll be be better you'll be smarter
More grown up and a better daughter
Or son and a real good friend
And you'll be awake and you'll be alert
You'll be positive though it hurts
And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends
And you'll be a real good listener
You'll be honest you'll be brave
You'll be handsome you'll be beautiful
You'll be happy

What fandoms did you acquire in 2008?
Entourage, Merlin, Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, Reaper. Sort of Psych, since I got S1 for Christmas and now need to buy S2. So very cute, you guys.
What fandoms did you let go of in 2008?
I still need to catch up on Battlestar, and T:TSCCC
What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2008?
Life, Sanctuary, The Middleman (because everyone's been squeeing), Fringe. It should be noted that if I still had Sky, this would be less of a problem.
What fandoms do you intend to check out in 2009?
Dollhouse. I'm sure other stuff too, but mostly Dollhouse
What fandoms do you think you might let go of unless things significantly improve in 2009?
(I said this last year) Heroes, but this is mostly because I'm months behind on S3.
What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Still Who, no matter how much it disappoints me sometimes. Apparently Bones, which made me very angry, but I'll still pick up S4 on DVD.
What show impressed you most in 2008?
Torchwood, making up for an occasionally good S1 with a much improved S2. Still some problems, but generally much better. And Lost had a pretty good year as well, again upping its game.

Happy New Year all ♥
