"Tis a far, far better world I make... well, different from this one."

I do love Edinburgh, though there are ways it makes me sad. Or, makes me wish I had more of a life-plan than this. It reminds me of Oxford too much in places.

I got to see scrollgirl though! We saw two plays, and climbed about Edinburgh Castle, and got very wet. Not so wet as we were when we went to see the Tattoo though! That was one of those nights where I'm pretty sure no more water could have soaked into what I was wearing. It was fun though! Marching bands, and bagpipes, and poor little dancers out in the rain with very little clothes on. I felt bad for them...

And it was nice to babble to someone about why Superman (and straight-up hero types) are more interesting than they're given credit for. And the awesomeness that would be a really good Justice League or Wonder Woman movie. (We did mostly avoid discussion of Spike though ;) ) Thank you for that, and for dealing with my rampant indecisiveness :)

So apparently I need to be less scared about meeting fannish people. Any of y'all who happen to be in Northern Ireland, tell me so we can meet up! (Though I do not know why you would want to be here)

Things I saw:-
+ Histrionics: mostly a comedy in a coffeehouse in 1702, funny in parts I guess, but the appeal was mainly the free coffee.
+ Shakespod: speeches remixed, with a modern framing device. Fun :) (And scrollgirl, I think the speech we didn't recognise was Measure for Measure - Isabella is a novice nun, pleading the judge for her brother's life, but won't have sex with the judge in exchange).
+ Upstart Crows: Kit Marlowe and Ned Alleyn. *sighs* I have a terrible weakness for the period, and for plays about plays. Especially plays about writers who agonise about their legacy, (and their spy career) and their sexuality. I really liked this one.
+ Zanna, Don't!: Hmm... if I say 'like an even more gay High School Musical' will it be understood as a compliment? Zanna is the cupid/Emma for a high school in alternate world where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality the deviant act. Funny and camp and sugar-light in places but really moving in others.
+ Footsbarn's Midsummer Night's Dream: I think mum liked this one best. Physical theatre, and the text, and some adaptions from the text, but a great show. The wee boy in the front row was laughing the whole way through :) But I did want to run away with the company - they travel the world in caravans putting on shows!
+ A Festival Dickens: Simon Callow reading two Dickens short stories. I don't know what I can say except that Callow's a great actor, which is hardly news. It made me think of Sam, because I am sad, and I don't know much Dickens?
+ Somewhere Over the Westway: This was our attempt to stop hating pantomime, but wasn't terribly successful. It wasn't bad, but I'm just not a big fan of audience participation. Or really obvious cultural references. I am not pantomime's ideal audience.
+ Tick Tick... Boom!: I'm pretty sure it's a great show, but the production had audio problems. Levels, and some uncertainty in tuning. It's really funny though, and I had some heavy empathy going for the main character... (Writer getting older, no major successes, trying to decide whether to go do something sensible). I really like 'Why', possibly because I have a copy of Neil Patrick Harris singing it.

And now, my Guild DVD has arrived, and since it caused Felicia so much trouble I feel I should go enjoy it! Yell my direction if I've missed anything important?
