Summary: Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne discuss clean energy and future plans.
I spent most of the writing time on the second debating whether or not Tony and Bruce (Wayne) are actually alike, or just have some similarities in background that make people think they are.
They are both genius billionaire philanthropists. (Honestly, they can both be a little haphazard with the philanthropy. They give money away when they remember to/their foundations tell them to.) Tony is legitimately a playboy (sometimes); Bruce plays one for the cameras. Nolanverse!Bruce is less obviously a genius than some canon Bats, and seems less obviously a genius than either Tony or Bruce Banner. Though they do both rely on things they made to be heroes, and in a way which renders them sometimes as destructive as the power-having guys. Though relatedly, Nolanverse!Bruce is also less obviously a detective, which may be why I like him less than DCAU!Bruce, who is my favourite. Go watch the identity revelation scene in Starcrossed ♥
Anyhow. Both Tony and Bruce relate with other people in problematic ways. Tony certainly spends time alone, and doesn't necessarily know what to do with a team. But I don't think he would choose to be alone, whereas Bruce actively exiles himself from society. Tony needs to talk to someone - that's why he created JARVIS and the bots - and he grabs the chance to work with BruceB with both hands. BruceW only works with other people when he has no other choice.
This isn't a value judgement, by the way. Tony is more my type of character, but Bruce does have reasons for his attitude to people and the choices he makes. And a lot of those are rooted in the main thing that is different in history between the two of them: when he was a child, Bruce lost parents who loved him; Tony grew up thinking his parents - or maybe just his father? - didn't love him, and never had the chance as an adult to change that.
Bruce growing into his mission in Gotham is of course also a factor.
So. I can definitely see them being friends, but there are some big differences between the two. That was really more thought than that ficlet deserved.
