So I realize I haven't updated in a while, but it's been pretty busy. But this day was so bizarre and crazy that I realized I had to post!
So for those of you who don't know, I work at a movie theatre. During the summer, you can imagine our days and numbers usually depend on the weather. Well today certainly proved that.
We have 4 shows a day, noonish, 3ish, 6ish, and 9ish. Noon shows go in and all is fine and dandy. I'm helping a new employee with her job and go to check the theatres to make sure all is well. As I make my way into the 4th theatre I hear a huge crash of thunder and make my way to the box office. The lights flicker on and off and a couple of the movies go down... nothing too serious. We tell the people the situation and the movies get back up within a couple minutes.
However, about 20 minutes later, there is another huge crash (followed by ping pong sized hail {I saved some of it in the freezer!}) and we lost all power. All movies. All ticket sales. All computers. We spent the next hour refunding everyone's tickets x 2. Because the power went out and we didn't allow them to stay in the building we had to refund their money and then give them free movie tickets.... we lost a lot of money!
THEN! When all of those people left in the monsoon, the power finally came back on (too late) and people began to think that all was well with the world. Not exactly. Because the movies were stopped for that amount of time, they had to continue to run through to the end (because reels can't rewind) which meant they would run into and past the 3 PM shows. So we either had to cancel the 3 PM shows, or postpone the 3 PM shows until 4ish and then cancel the 6 PM. The 3 PM is less popular so that option seemed legitimate. But no. The owner doesn't understand it and complains to the manager. Meanwhile we have angry customers who are yelling at us telling us that they traveled such and such time to come and watch a movie, etc... We have nothing to tell them except the weather does what it does.
Well eventually that all got sorted out (sort of) and I went home for about 20 minutes. Came back and realized that all those people who were forced to leave and those who wanted to see the 3 PM show were all now arriving at the 6 PM show. We sold out of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 at 5:30 with a large line of people behind them. We had a good show. Second show we were SUPER busy and because of that, I didn't get out of work until 10:30...
So that's my story... it seemed a lot more surreal when I actually was experiencing it... especially when I found out that a tornado warning was in effect 10 minutes down the road from us and the walgreens in the town over had it's roof ripped off... kinda exhilerating!!
And now... after a long long long LONG day... it is time for sleeep..
goodnight LJers... :*
