Back at Suzy's from con

This weekend was great fun and the relaxation that I really needed. Con repoort is under tag should anyone want to read of my lovely doings this weekend,

A good time was had by all. :-) Suzy and I had a quick breakfast and ran one more errand before we headed off to Union Station to catch the train. The Cicada's are out with force this year and it was highly amusing to watch Suzy .. um.. react as we walked past trees with lots and lots of shed skin on them. I meanwhile was laighing hysterically. When I was little I used to pull them off the trees and collect them in big bags. So at one point, I pulled one off the tree and was chasing her with it. It was great fun. heh

So we got to the train station and had an extra 45 mins for the train, as it was late. Once we got on the train it was a nice trip up to Lansing. This was the first time I had really taken the train outside of short train rides, and I have to say, I rather enjoyed it. The lack of security makes me a bit twitchy though, but otherwise, I may have to take a cross country train trip at some point.

Going back a bit.. Nydia's plane was delayed leaving Texas so she was unable to get to the train station in time to meet us for the train. She was able to get a later train though and she arrived at the hotel around midnight. This seems to have been a nightmare travel time for all.. she says quietly. still having a flight home to San ose tomorrow.

So we got to the hotel around 8ish on Thursday night and checked in. We were on the 3rd florr this year, which tends to traditionally be the "shopping" floor.. so its busy and loud.. but fun. After going to dinner we decided a quick hall crawl was in order..and as we came around the corner to our room, I noticed some appendages sticking out from the nook a couple rooms past ours. I asked Suzy, "Is that a Dalek?" Sure enough, it was. We were only a couple doors down from the Who merchandise room. So needless to say.. we went shopping. The first purchases of the con, became known as "The Boys" collectively, but seperately they became Sparky the Emo-Dalek bank and Jack in the Box a Captain Jack Sparrpw 15 inch doll/action figure. I may just leave him in the box, simply for the novelty of having JaCk in the Box, but really.. I'll have to take him out and play with him at some point. :-)

Anyway.. Nydia came in about midnight as I said.. and we talked for a while (this is the first time the three of us have been able to get together ij the same state)

I have this tendancy at cons, to be the first person up. For some reason I find it difficult to sleep in much past 9 at hotels. No matter how tired I am. Its one of those things with me. So I was up and dressed and weaking the other two up by 9:30, so we can get into the reg line by 10. We got there at about 10:15 (Registration opens at 10 theoretically) but it was nearly noon before they finally got open. (They really need to just say that registrastion opens at 11...this happens every year. I've never gone to a M*W where reg actually opened at 10.

So we got our badges, checked the panel schedule to see what the plans were and I thinkat this point we may have gone to the restaurant for lunch.

We hit the dealers room after eating and I bought a classic Trek zine I'd been teasing Nydia that it was her fault that I had been getting into Classic Trek and actually wanting to read some K/S. (Its really not ehr fault. but I tease her anyway..)

At some point we went back up and did another hall crawl.. and She found and bought an entire set of Voyager Dvds. Fortunately she had her portable DVD player with her.. so we spend a good portion of the weekend watching Voyager and making me actually want to Netflix Voyager and start watching it. (This I can entirely blame on her... ;-) )

Over the weekend we watched Torchwood, Bones (Hey, I like this.. more stuff to Netflix), Babylon 5 (Oh. how I missed B5), DS9 (Well, crap, I need to netflix this too.. ) and of course Doctor Who. After many trevails we did finally get to see the new Dr Who episode. The poor Wireless Internet connection at the hotel got a workout this weekend and that cause nightmarishly long downloads and bad conections. Poor thing. Its probably glad we're gone. LOL

So over all, I am really relaxed, had a lot of fun... Nydia and I remarked that last December was the 10th anniversary of our meeting.. and I've known Suzy not much less than that.. and we had a lot of fun hanging out in the same city together for once. We also talked about perhaops doing a little trip together in December.. possibly to Disney World. (Hmm.. WDW in November and December.. how will I cope. LOL)

The hot fandoms this year seemed to be Supernatural, Heroes and Dr Who. (though there was not as much Dr Who swag as I had hoped. The Friday vid show was nearly all Supernatural, which even teh SPN fans were getting a little tired of by the end. The vids were good.. but by the 5th one, they were using the same scenes over and over and... it was a little like watching the same video over and over (ad nauseum) just with different music. I like SPN.. but that got really old after a while. I mean.. really old. A lot of people actually left the show early due to it.

I will say, as it would be remiss of me not to... Morgan, your vids were great! (Fortunately yours were some of the earlier SPN vids so the audience was fresh and not groaning everytime one came on. So yours were appreciated. And since they showed the winenrs from last year, I was able to see your Dr Who one as well. Excellent job. I love my Nine. :-)

Here's hoping next years Vid show has a better mix.

I think that's all I really wanted to say.. as this is turning into a novel really quickly. If I think of more I will add it into another post, as I am going to try to get back into the habot of posting again. :-)

Will get home tomorrow evening, so I'll catch everyone on the flip side!

mediawest, star trek
