Half way there!
Saw some movies yesterday and today:
American VenusRebecca De Mornay, Nicholas Lea
Basically, the movie "is a critique of American self-centredness and the deep, yet easily overlooked cultural differences between Canada and our southern neighbour." It was a VERY strange movie, written by Bruce Sweeney, and I totally left the theatre wondering if I liked it. Woke up this morning, and I've come to the conclusion that I THINK I did.
HoneydripperDanny Glover
Slow to start, felt like they could've cut out huge bits, but a really satisfying ending. About how r'n'b changed into rock'n'roll...sorta. Anyway, good ending.
And I saw bits of
BlindA Dutch film about an albino woman who cares for a young blind man. They fall in love, but that love it threatened when he has surgery that restores his sight, and she fears that once he sees what she looks like, he will stop loving her. Set in the late nineteenth century, it had beautiful imagery, and I wished I was able to sit in the whole thing and watch...but it was one of those films I could only pop in and out of during my shift.
Other stuff:
Don Cheadle dropped by the Varsity to do a Q&A for his film Darfur Now. While trying to get out of the Varsity, he someone got caught in a line going in to see one of our big films. Hilarity ensued. And a little bit of chaos.
Didn't go to Stratford today for the Cricket Game party. Oakey decided she didn't want to go, and I didn't want to go by myself. Oh well.
