The reckless brinksmanship on the brink of an economic upheaval and refusal to behave like a minority government should by any proper application of karma lead the conservative government to be utterly wiped out. The stupidity of their games in the budget update is mind-boggling.
One day Harper is saying this is the worst crisis since the depression and that stimulus is needed immediately to ward off catastrophe. The next, they're announcing cuts rather than stimulus and the intention to change the election law to deprive the opposition of the funding-per-vote THAT MANY PEOPLE CHOSE THEIR VOTES BASED ON. The numbers in the update is a complete lie unless every analyst in the country is out to lunch and seems carefully constructed to destroy this parliament.
I don't want an election, but it's hard to desire anything other than to see the fall of their government. A "grand coalition" of the left-leaning opposition parties is an interesting idea, but I just can't see it being stable enough to work. Alas, I fear that Harper has made a cold cynical calculation to bet on the gullability of Canadians and is really is trying to provoke a destructive crisis to force an immediate rerun of the election.
EDIT: the Conservatives have dropped that provision from the current bill but state they intend to reintroduce it later. Now about the banning of strikes ...
