For the first time in years, Valentine's Day passed without much soul searching on my part. I can thank our current economic nosedive for this. I noticed a distinct lack of over the top, obviously staged bling and flower commercials this year, hence sparing me an internal battle. I admit it, Hallmark, Jared, etc - your marketing ploys worm their way into my idea of how things are supposed to be. I rage about the sappy, cookie cutter Hallmark holiday, while simultaneously knowing that part of my rage is jealousy steming from my lack of some ridiculous Swarovski crystal heart necklace (this week, only $299!). This is especially problematic because I know I would be seriously irritated if Mr. Norwegian spent that much money on something so tacky :P However, since tying love to material objects really isn't a good strategy when every day seems to bring more job losses, this year, I did not have any advertising-induced fits of self pity. Every cloud has a silver lining....or perhaps just a silver plated lining...or aluminum...or something.
I swear there was a point to the previous sentence, but it may have been misplaced.
In other news, my phone has died. A few days ago, it stopped letting me make or receive calls. At first, I blamed AT&T's admittedly underwhelming coverage. However, as every other AT&T phone in the vicinity works, I have been forced to conclude that this is just limited to my phone. THe truly irritating bit is that I haven't done anything which would explain this. I haven't gotten the pone wet, it's properly charged, and the only time I have dropped it in a way that could potentially damage it (the paint chipped) was months ago. Perhaps this is some strange, passive-aggressive reaction on the phone's part because I didn't get it a tacky heart necklace. Or something.
Apart from that, I feel like my life is a holding pattern. Oy vey.
Peace!
