An open letter to the weather gods

Dear Lovely Spring-Like Weather,

Firs, let me begin by thanking you for timing your arrival with the weekend. If it had been 60 and sunny tomorrow, while I was trapped in Cubicle City, I would have been convinced you were a heinous cruel being who has zero regard for us mortals. Instead, you have given us a clear, temperate weekend after weeks of freezing weather, and on behalf of my fellow East Coast residents, I thank you.

However, I do have to call you out for being a somewhat thoughtless bastard with a well-hidden sadistic streak. You've flown in, and we responded. We've gone for walks, bike rides, busied ourselves in the yard  and finally trimmed those bushes(a task we'd avoided for months!) Children were playing, the birds were chirping, in fact, life has been pretty good. And by hanging around for an entire weekend, we were beginning to hope you might stay.

But you were playing us, weren't you? You're leaving us behind, sending us back into the arms of winter, back into our woolen sweaters, back to days in grey cubicles and skies filled with grey clouds. You'll flit away, leaving us to shiver as we pass the chittering swallows, too cold to even bother breaking off some crumbs from our overpriced breakfast muffins for them.

You sadistic jerk.

And the worst it is, you'll return. You'll drop in again suddenly in late February, bringing the scent of new groth and spring rain, whispering tales of your travels as you wind through the trees As always, we'll respond as we always do, with open arms and open hearts, ready to receive you, ready to take whatever you have to offer. You'll  play with us a few times before winter ends, building our hopes up just to kock us down.

And like all the other mortals, I'll be here, grasping at the crumbs you give us, and waiting for the day you come to stay. And after a few weeks, I'll become the jerk, grumbling about the constant rain, the bugs, and longing for summer. But hey, c'est la vie

Peace.

And in an unrelated note, for te first time in my life, I am making a Valentines day mix CD of love songs. I need an infusion of cynicism, stat! I my defense, the track list is absolutely fantastic!
