Second day in DC

Dec 12, 2017 19:26

Our second day in DC was spent going through the rest of the memorial.

There is a streetcar station near our apartment and we managed to try it.

We took the streetcar to Union Station to change to the DC circulator. The streetcar is free while the Circulator cost a dollar per trip.

Inside Union Station.
This is the Union Station, a transportation hub for metro, buses, Amtrak train etc.

The circulator which we took to the Jefferson Memorial.

The National Mall is actually a very pleasant public park. Jefferson Memorial is next to this tidal basin which in April, one will see the beautiful cherry blossom.

Thomas Jefferson is the third President of the United States and the one who drafted the Declaration of Independence. He also spearheaded the University of Virginia.

From there we walked to the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial.

Famous for his fight for equally and justice for the blacks and delivered the famous speech, I have a dream. Unfortunately, he suffered the same fate as Abraham Lincoln and was assassinated at the age of 39.

A picture with the great men.

The next memorial we saw was that of Franklin Roosevelt. His is made up of many parts

Franklin Roosevelt is the 32nd President of America and saw WWII. After the attack on Pearl Harbour, he decided to join forces against the Axis. He's also one President who had served 3 terms conservatively.

I'm not sure if this is part of the Roosevelt Memorial but it's definitely a good one.

Seong also wanted to see the Arlington Cemetery and hence we took a walk across the Potomac river.

The weather though cold was sunny and quite pleasant for long walks

This is a huge cemetery ground.

We were pretty exhausted by then and decided to uber to this restaurant Jalepo near Chinatown an the Penn Quarter. Chinatown in DC is very different from the one in NYC. There aren't many Chinese restaurants but a variety of restaurants from all over the world, India, Spanish, Italian etc. It's very neat and nice.

Her cool look.

From the restaurant, we walked to the Smithsonian Museum of Air and Space. This is one museum that the girls especially Ashley enjoyed the most.

Great to see them happy.
