4th day in NYC

Dec 07, 2017 06:13

Today we visited the New York Public Library.

There's a free tour everyday at 11 am and 2 pm and we went for the earlier one.

I was awestruck by how beautiful the building is. The entrance was so grand and there are so much intricate details in the architecture, right from the ceiling to the water cooler.

This our tour guide to the library.

She took us around to the different section of the library. The New York Public Library is a research library so one cannot take the book out unless there's special permission. So people do their research in the library.

There's a Children's section at the basement and only books there can be borrowed.

The Children's section with two Lego lions fronting the entrance.

The original Winnie the Pooh and his friends.

Our lady guide pointed out to this tile near the entrance of the library.

The plaque remembers Martin Radtke, a poor Lithuanian immigrant who came the US to worked as a gardener. He made frequent visit to the New York Public Library and educated himself during those regular visits. He managed to make a fortune trading stocks and donated his estate to the library.

After the library visit, we went to Bryant Park which is right behind the library. There's a holiday market there.

There's a carousel in the park and of course the little one had to have a go.

There were people juggling and playing table tennis at the park.

The stalls are all so neat and nicely set up.

We had our lunch at the park.

There's also an ice skating rink.

The girls wanted to visit the Strand book store so we took the subway there. We spent around 2 hours at the store before walking to the Chelsea market.

Anna with her favourite poster.

We were so exhausted after all the walking and ubered to Wagamama for a simple Japanese dinner.
