so, I have had this squabble with Bank of America for about a year and a half now. I was banking with them for a very long time, and never had a problem. Then one time every transaction I made was held for like a week, and then I made a deposit, and the deposit was also held, and in the time that the deposit was held the transactions all went through at once, and my balance was close to zero because my deposit had yet to be processed. This is where it gets tricky, because my account was teetering on the brink of zero, and I never had any fees, for some reason the bank decided they would charge me like a $6 fee for processing all of my transactions, something they had never done before, and then because of their fees my account went into the negative, which then they decided they would charge me overdraft fees.....So now I'm in a situation where my account is negative, and my deposit had still not gone through, and I had more transactions being processed against that deposit, so of course they went through right away when the account was negative, so whammy big time overdraft fees.......all because the bank held transactions, held my deposit, and then charged me mysterious fees. All of this contributed to a catastrophe in my bank account. One that ballooned so out of control that I decided to just another account somewhere else, and Bank of America could just fuck themselves. During all of this I tried many attempts at reconciling the situation with customer service, and one guy actually asked me how I left my account get so out of control...fuck you, and fuck your big ass corporate bank too, you pompous judgemental son of a bitch.
Since that time Bank of America has sent my account to collections, and they were just as nice as Bank of America's customer service, and even less so, because they couldn't care less what happened to my account. All of this time I could have just paid it off and been done with it, but I was being stubborn, because I didn't think I had to pay the full amount. Sure I would pay some, but not all. When collections first contacted me, and was trying to strong arm me into paying, I told them that I would settle for half, but they wouldn't take it, so I said goodbye.
Now, I get another letter from them, offering to settle the amount for about $100 less, which is a sign that they are willing to work with me, but I still do not feel that I need to pay that amount. So, I counter-offered, and wrote them a check for half of the original amount, and about $100 less than their new offer. I told them that I would pay what I feel is my obligation, but I would not pay anything more than that, because I feel the original debt was from unnecessary bank fees, and that the bank negligent in offering me the proper service I felt I deserved.
Long story short, and I'm sorry if this was boring, but I sent off the check and my letter this morning.
I'm tired of big companies trying to bully people into paying things, just with the threat of credit damage. I'm still waiting to hear from those Woodbine bastards too.
They sent me a letter like a month ago, saying that I owed them a move-out balance. Ridiculous bullshit, and I wrote them back and said that I wasn't paying a dime, until they furnished me with written proof, signed by me that I would agree to pay ridiculous charges that they conjured up out of thin air.
Anyhow, I'm fighting back against the man, and that is my story.
