I'm serious when I say that my plan in NYC is to have no play. I never thought I was capable of travelling alone in a city that allegedly never sleeps, but.... here I am, a 23-hour flight, one bus (I sometimes like to think, space) shuttle ride and navigating my way up a narrow flight of stairs with 20kg worth of luggage later, sleepless, but still in one piece.
I've been completely thrown off by the weather, it is frigid cold, for lack of better phrase. There goes my plan to spend the evening in Central Park. Makes me totally delighted that I went out and bought so many fur coats, albeit faux. Bottomline is, when I'm lying in bed and the comforter is the antithesis of its moniker, I'm just glad I'm all cosy and warm. The only drawback about the hostel is that it's a little secluded, and I'm hungry... damn the cold weather.
There is a common conception that New Yorkers are unkind and mean, but not from my experience so far. Sat next to one for 15 hours on the plane, he was a delight. The shuttle bus guy and the inn managers are nice too. Having taken a ride through the city, I'm convinced that my next trip here will involve at least a few night's stay in a swishy hotel, even though I have no complaints about the accomodation. Note to self, do not attempt to sleep earlier than 10pm, the hostel is still bustling with activity then. Right now, I'm just glad I've got a private room, being a light sleeper and all. I managed about an hour of collective sleep since I touched down, so I can still stay up for a bit to plan for tomorrow. I'm only got an hour left of my battery life before I have to head on up to charge everything.
Anyway, I've really chosen an opportune time to come to New York. I'm just in time for the Thanksgiving parade held along Central Park toward The Plaza, the Christmas tree lightup at Rockefella Centre and a Lovedrug gig. I'm so excited. Alright. I had better catch some shut-eye before my little adventure tomorrow. Toodles my poodles. Laptop is upstairs, so...... you'll have to wait fr a bit. Maybe tomorrow night.
Love,
J
