[It's not often one gets to tolerate the presence on one's past self. For a Time Lord, the chances of running into one's self in a past, present, or future incarnation increases the longer one has lived. The universe is only so big, after all. While he's met himself on a handful of occasions, this time, however, is vastly different from the rest

[while Riku's already had a taste of the Doctor's old regenerations, that's a lot to take in. and a lot more than he had expected]

Doctor...just how many times have you died?

[runs a hand through his hair] Well...would you believe nine times?

[dawnward]

...that sounds like about nine, yes.

[bit_impossible]

...Some of the current me is there as well. Some of these conversations... I never thought I'd have to hear them again. And it's not like I can switch the dial to a different station or off entirely. They're a difficult bunch to shut out.

[dawnward]

Maybe earplugs? [he's not sure if that'd work, but...] It does sound like some of those conversations were...difficult.

Sadly, those won't work on me. [smiles weakly] I mean, I can wear them, but they only block out so much noise, and I've been known to be pretty loud when I have to be.

But yes...most of those were. Not all of them, however, were completely sad. One I was even able to redeem myself in the eyes of an old companion!

That's unfortunate. But maybe a little help is better than none.

[smiles slightly] So it's safe to say that not all memories are bad.

[bit_impossible]

Oh, of course not! I've got so many happy, content memories up here in the ol' noggin, it's ridiculous! Well. Some are harder to recall for one reason or another, some even made bitter-sweet because of later events, but memories are both good and bad. Universal balance, yin and yang, that sort of thing.

You're definitely right.

[a short pause] ...Doctor, that last statement, about darkness and moving forward...if you don't mind me asking, when did that happen?

[bit_impossible]

[taps his chin] You know...I'm not entirely sure. Ballpark range of a century or two. Why do you ask?

[dawnward]

There's no reason. [slightly embarrassed] I just liked what was said.

[bit_impossible]

[smiles] I'm glad you did. It's very true. That's why I keep travelling. Never mind there's still so much I haven't seen, but still.

[dawnward]

With the universe being as big as it is, it's doubtful that you'll ever see it all.

I think that's a little comforting.

Comforting that I'll never see it all?! I find that quite distressing!

[dawnward]

[startled] But...if you did see it all, what then?

I...well, I suppose that'd be the end of the road.
