[night has fallen once again on Eos, and one man who has spent far too much time listening to voices in the dark depths of the forest has finally emerged from the tree-line. amazingly, he looks slightly more put together than he has in past days. his tie is straight, tightened snugly in place, and his shirt tails are tucked neatly into his suit ( Read more... )

[The transmission leaves Motoko a bit on edge as she continues her network-wide surveillance.]

Do you mind explaining what that was all about?

[he shrugs innocently at this new person.]

I could, I could, but where would the fun be if I came right out and told you? After all, I don't even know your name.

Motoko Kusanagi, what's yours?

[Dodging the question like that only serves to drive up suspicion, so she decides to just try to get some bare information on the guy so as to keep better tabs on him.]

Ahhh there we go. I'm the Doctor.

Now...what was your question again?

What was your transmission about? You said you were on to someone, so that would imply someone is after you.

Correction, someone's after us all. They started with the Captain and they're responsible for pulling everyone onto the ship--or rather onto the planet now. The ship's very much dead now.

[...Now that's just absurd. The ship is an inanimate object, therefore it couldn't have died in the first place. Right then, she hears the Chief's voice echoing from inside her cyberbrain as if to echo the Doctor's words and increase growing doubts.]

Who do you mean by they? The disappeared crew? Other passengers? Some higher being?

bit_impossible February 28 2009, 07:43:32 UTC
Well, they meaning he, she. Or it! Could be an it, I'm not going to rule anything out.

But how do you know about the crew? How'd you know we were sans crew this entire time? Where'd you learn that from?

ghostin_myshell February 28 2009, 07:49:26 UTC
More specifically, a name, a description. Anything at all.

One of the other passengers mentioned that he hadn't seen the crew anywhere around here. It's only logical that as I'm unsure of what happened to the crew or where they are, that I refer to them as 'disappeared'.

[he purposefully ignores her demands for specifics.]

That's some very good logic there. Very nice indeed, and you'd be correct, of course. Even if the crew had been here, however, most of them would have perished when the ship crashed. The crew quarters were near the bottom of the ship and as you can see, it's--well, you know. I don't have to go into details.

[Motoko notices the dodge and isn't too happy with his shenanigans.]

We can't rule out the possibility that they jumped ship as it was going down either though.

No. That IAIC ship would have mentioned seeing an escape pod jettison away from the Crucible.

Besides, there were no escape pods or any spare ships on there. I've searched that ship top to bottom and there was no sign of any other vessels so that person couldn't have used one to get away.

Nothing... that makes no sense at all.

[How could that thing have had no viable means of escape? With safety laws that had been in place for decades, this was absurd. The passengers were lucky they hadn't died in the wreck along with the captain.]

It doesn't? It makes complete sense to me.

It makes complete sense to you that the ship had no means for either its crew or passengers to escape in the event of an emergency?

If that person wanted to trap us aboard the ship with no means of escape, then yes, it certainly does!
