Another Quick Update...

Today has been declared a Day of Mourning for Kyrgyzstan.  A mass funeral is being held (or has already been held) in the center square.  According to Al Jazeera, there are thousands of people gathered there.  I hope that they remain calm and peaceful.

Two of our good friends had their stores looted.  Lion, a shoe store, and Vestel, a home appliance store, were broken into and lost just about everything.  The owner of Vestel said his (store) neighbor pulled three washers into his store to keep for safe keeping...and in exchange for his good deed would return two of them and keep the third for himself.  Nice logic.  Outside of Rodi (a store that sells jeans) could be seen piles of clothing--the looters took off their own clothes and put on what they stole.  Vefa Center, a shopping mall built after the Tulip Revolution of 2005, was broken into and looted.  When Veysel and I went out yesterday we drove by and there were kids about 8-10 years old even running into and out of the mall.  With orders for police to shoot looters at will, I was concerned for the kids.

There had been some sporadic gunfire again near our house last night around sundown but it was short-lived.

We are all well.  I'm just angry that this has happened AGAIN and was quite bloody.  This baby country needs a lot of help but no one pays attention to it unless there's something in it for them.

Take care and keep watching the news.

Love,

D and the Gang
