I just had an altercation with a friend of mine who is also Bipolar. Long story short they have been doing some particularly risky behavior as of late, a propensity for alchoholism, at odds with thier SO that resulted in cheating on the SO...This person has come to me on numerous occasions for advice or just a listening ear and I thought we had an understanding report up to this point. I've been around the block a lot in my time and made almost every mistake you can as a Bipolar, from risky sexual practices to substance abuse to every social faux pas known to civilized society. This same person mind you has said how much my advice has helped them in the past, how my experience has guided them and my listening and understanding has comforted them. Well, apparently that's no longer the case because I now find myself cut out of thier life because I had the audicity to tell a personal opinion they didn't want to hear.

Basically this conversation revolves around my talking with them concerning recent events in thier life. They got into an argument with thier SO over drunk driving and the defense of this action was to put it bluntly, "I have problems, but thiers are much worse than mine" I have this pet peeve you see with people not taking responsibility for thier actions, and especially with Bipolars blaming the disease for thier actions. Frankly, I unloaded both barrels. Apparently the result is I'm no longer considered a friend.

I'm going to be as non commital as possible about the who's and the whats because since I started on with this community I've noticed a couple of people right here in my home town are familiar with this little nook of the net so I'm just keeping identites private.

Me: *sigh*
Me: I think you're BOTH fucked up.

Them: most likely

Me: you have a serious problem, and Bipolar sure as hell aint it. from the way you talk it sounds to me like you ARE trying to use it as an excuse for your actions, especially when you are put on the defensive because your SO got mad at you about it. If you fucked up, you fucked up. Don't try to take some of the spotlight off of that by pointing out thier faults.

Me: you didn't drive drunk because you're Bipolar. You drove drunk because you're a raging alchoholic who won't see thirty unless you get yourself some help in a 12 step program

Me: thats the truth from my perspective. Im not sorry for saying it and if it hurts, then maybe it has some impact.

Them: i'm really not sure what your whole motive for saying this was
Them: but you're not telling me anything i don't already know
Them: and anything i don't talk to shrinks, therapists, and friends about, and work on.
Them: and i don't know why you think it would offend me to tell me you think i'm not bipolar
Them: good lord
Them: for real, stop dissecting everyone. mind your own business.
