Update on wedding and things

LJ only let me go back 200 entries, but let me just say that all of you are the most awesome and interesting people ever. After nearly ten years of being on LJ (!), thank you all for letting me read about your lives.

This isn't a goodbye speech, btw. Just something that occurred to me as I was back-clicking.

So let me tell you all about the completely awesome deal we got on wedding bands (the rings, not the music-providing groups that perform at receptions).

Dan and I had decided awhile back that we both wanted thin, plain, white-gold bands. It suits us and probably wouldn't be too expensive. I didn't know just HOW inexpensive it would be.

I was shopping with a couple friends of mine a few weeks ago, and I got to the shopping center early. I'm wandering around Kohl's killing time when I see that some of their jewelry is buy one, get one free. I think, wow, that's a pretty good deal. Then I see that ALL of their jewelry is buy one, get one. Then I think, WOW THAT'S A PRETTY GOOD DEAL.

The next day, then, Dan and I went up to the store to take a look at wedding bands. Lo and behold, there are two matching white-gold bands of the proper thinness. In sizes that fit both of us. His was $399, mine was $275. Excuse me, what I meant to say was, MINE WAS FREE.

And since I opened a credit account to pay for it, another 15% was taken off, meaning that (with tax) I got about $700 worth of jewelry for $360. THAT'S A PRETTY FUCKING GOOD DEAL.

So, cross that off the Wedding Schedule of Doom. This is defined as: the massive checklist schedule will shortly begin taking over my life. We're about to move into the nine-months-prior stage of this whole affair. Suggestions are being accepted for ceremony music choices. My parents are making a gift of the honeymoon, how exciting! I'm really, really grateful to them, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to go very far. I want the ocean. I WANT.

And by the way, to everyone making faces when I say the wedding is dry, 1, you don't have to come if that's the way you feel about it AND this gets cheaper for us with every bailout, so thanks; and 2, if you can't go four hours without a drink, you're a fucking alcoholic and you should seek help.

Dan had a pretty terrible time at work recently. To make a long story short, a man had a heart attack and died pretty much right in front of him. Dan called 911, and he and a coworker performed CPR while they waited for the EMTs, but the man was declared DOA at the hospital. Dan's boss' boss' boss called him personally on his cell phone to let him know, and the management team has been praising him for how well he did, but Dan's still pretty upset and shaken up. Who can blame him? His mom and I both sat down with him afterwards and talked about it, and I think that helped.

In other family news, Dan's sister is pregnant with baby number 3, and let's all hope for a girl this time - her two boys are a moving disaster area. I am super excited to start trying for a baby, by the way, and please remind me of this when I'm throwing up and wondering how we're going to pay all the hospital bills. Or, if you're kind, please don't :)

Dear Detroit Tigers, really? Really? Love, Rebecca.

Let's see, do I have anything else to ramble about? It's finally cooling off, and by cooling off I mean it's about 80 out, and I can finally start doing outdoor summer things without feeling like I'm going to sweat myself to death. We may go to the metropark today, and there will archery practice tomorrow (with the new arrows Dan made for me!) for the fall. I'd like to go to the county fair too, but, you know, they want money from us to get in. Boo.
