In the news
I made the local newspaper. I'm not real thrilled with the article.
I was misquoted in a good many places, and I don't like the notion that my
dog is my best friend! I just don't understand why people either want to
make my Seeing Eye dog my baby or my best friend? I like people! I want to
have a give and take relationship with a best friend--we do stuff together
and both get major enjoyment out of it. I guess that fits my relationship
with my dog, but I think of her more like my eyes. Sure, I feed, love, care
for, and provide for her, and in return, to the best of her ability, she
keeps me safe. But there's no communication of meaningful abstract nature
in our relationship. She can't say, "That shirt really makes you look fat,
but the jeans are cute," or "That guy is really cute!", or "I want to watch
a movie, want to come?". Oh well, at least there was good points in the
article, about not touching, talking, or distracting the dog when she's
working, and the Seeing Eye web site was addressed. I'm putting in a link,
but I don't know how long the article will be available on the web site.
