Weird Wednesday

The workshop today was fairly painless--though it was a bit hard to
stay awake during the presentation of lesson plans. I think that it would
have been more beneficial during that part to be in one's own content area.
I did enjoy helping Patti create a lesson on angiosperms and gymnosperms. I
do hope that I can do more with plants this year. I'm looking forward to
Spring Semester!
We went to Wendy's for lunch, and I really have lost my desire to
eat Junior Bacon burgers. My burger was skewed, and top heavy. The bacon
wasn't crispy.
After that, we went to Wal-Mart. I saw one of my former students.
Of course, her first question to me was, "Do you know who I am?" I teased
her about how the summer hadn't changed her. I got a CD player to have in
my classroom, to hopefully implement some of the activities from the
workshop.
Lori and I hung out for most of the afternoon. We rode around
Georgiana looking for houses, called realty agencies, and such stuff. We
ended up at Friendly G's, and I got coffee (to remember my Seeing Eye
friends and all the coffee breaks we never spent together) and fried Dill
Pickles. It was a lot of fun, because we were asking about houses. The
elderly Gentlemen crowd was there, and they told us about a few, then they
started asking each other about how many bedrooms were in certain
dilapidated houses...and talking about old girlfriends. It was amusing.
Mom met us at my place around 5:30, and we went to look at a
"starter" house. It's an old house, next door to a gas station/car wash.
It's nice, enough, although quite small. The layout reminds me of some of
the apartments I saw in college. It's recently been rewired, and there are
plenty of electrical outlets scattered around the place. There is a hook up
for washer and dryer in the kitchen, which is carpeted, along with the
entire rest of the house, but Mom is afraid I won't have room for my fridge.
I think we're going to try to look at it again this weekend, with Dad.
Tomorrow, I'm going to also try to look at an apartment over in the
section for elderly and disabled. I don't know if I qualify or if there
will be a waiting list, but it's worth keeping options open.

workshop, oasis, friends, house hunting
