The Weekend

May 22, 2007 04:45

My weekend was quite boring, but there were a few exciting moments. Friday
was absolutely crazy at school...the seniors were excited, and totally acted
nuts. The 7th and 8th graders actually caused Mrs. McNeil to stop the
honors assembly and correct them--which is totally out of character for
her...I would have sent them back to class almost the moment they walked
through the door. The high school assembly wasn't that much better, but the
students were a little quieter. I'm still kind of confused as to why we
didn't hold all the honors together.

I asked several teachers, but nobody seemed to be coming back for class
night, and I found that rather disheartening. Granted, our seniors weren't
going to Harvard, or the Ivy League, they did work hard this year. I was
very proud of them, although I know that many of them won't believe it.
I've got to work harder to show that. I walked back over to school, and
looked for a way to get in. I didn't realize the back door to building two
would be locked, but it was. Eventually, some parents showed up, and they
were able to get the attention of some of the people inside. We got inside,
and I sat in the back with a couple of other teachers. Coach Edwards came,
and I thought that was really nice.

After it was over, Mr. Dean helped me look for my watch, which had fallen
off in the process of me looking for a way inside...but he didn't find it.
I panicked a little, because I knew it would be hard to function without it
this week. I spent much of Saturday morning searching online for Braille
Watches, and while $75 isn't bad for a run of the mill Braille Watch, it
just annoys me that I can't go to Target, Wal-Mart, or somewhere, like my
sighted peers, and pick up a cheap watch that looks nice. I don't think a
timepiece should cost quite so much.
I talked on the phone with Kelly about an hour Friday night, but she
and Jeremy were helping his parents pack and move, so we couldn't hang out
Saturday. Mom came by on her way home from a Gideon meeting, and she and
Dad walked over to school with me to help search for the watch. They had
brought one of my old watches from home, but I knew once I described to Mom
where I had fallen, she would be able to find the watch--and I was right.
So the little watch with the leather band is back on my wrist.
Mom also brought by some clothes she picked up in Montgomery, I
think most of them came from Kohls. I got four new pairs of Capri pants,
and that will help me this summer. Two of them, I can wear to school
(actually wore one outfit on Monday).

Sunday was nice. We had senior recognition day at church, and Brother Ronny
talked about being an Eagle, not a turkey in his sermon.

Monday was a good day at school, aside from the fact that I couldn't get STI
Assessment to work, but I think I've gotten all the bugs ironed out of that
for now. Hopefully, it will be successful, and everybody will be happy with
the results. I thought I was going to have two free periods, but it turns
out that there was one junior in my Algebraic Connections class--I had
forgotten about that, so this week will be interesting.
