The one where Elly is the fashion police.

Synopsis: Rod learned that the 'Oh, NOTHING' Lynn was not telling him was bothering her was hiss wearing light colors after Labor Day.

Summary: Given that lab coats are usually light colors, this seemed pointless then and now.

When we compare the original version:

1. The finger in the air, closed eyes pose. Again.

2. John goes to work in an office, and you are a SAHM, Elly. He doesn't need tips on how to dress for the workplace from YOU.

3. Hmm, I seem to remember a woman in this strip being portrayed as EVIL for "trying to change" her husband by criticizing his clothing. I'm sure I'm misremembering, though, because that would be hypocritical, right?

1) Lynn doesn't have the least idea how ridiculous that made her look. When Friz Freleng designed Sylvester, he gave him that pose to point out that the tomcat with the big, slobbery voithe wath a baththoon and a maroon (buffoon and moron).

2) Nobody is going to see his socks anyway because he wears scrubs. She doesn't realize this because she's an idiot.

3) Things are only wrong if someone Elly doesn't like does them. This is why Mira is a jerk: she wants all the same things Elly does but wants them for herself.

Sylvester is a lot more likeable than Elly. I always felt sorry for him.

When I was in New York years ago I was told Italians wear dark socks and Irish wear white socks. These days, I get mocked for wearing long white athletic socks as if I was from the 70s. I know nothing about sock fashion and yet I still know more than Elly Patterson.

Elly only half remembers the things she hears.

Lynn only remembers slightly more than Elly.

nobody but Elly cares about this. Most people never even look at anybody's socks.

Elly sees most harmless irrelevancies as being earth-shaking catastrophes only she cares enough to do anything about. This is supposed to make up for her actual threat-induced mental paralysis.

But she does. She has to because she has the mistaken belief that if she does not, that if they wear the wrong color of sock, her mother will materialize out of nowhere and call her a disgrace who should be shot!
