teaches us WHY Lynn has always hated criticism. People who are mean and bad and want to humiliate her come up with questions "no one" (which means "she") could ever have thought of. It never occurred to her that her explanation doesn't make a lick of sense to anyone else but her because she's always angered, frightened and saddened by people who do something haaaaard that she haaaaates called "keeping track of what's going on around them."

Even an honest "I really didn't think this through at the time" would have gone a long way.
