Underpants

First time out for a week again.  I had intended on going out yesterday, but just as I managed to find the convergence of motivation and time, I was interrupted by the most enormous hail storm, and so I had to stay home in the warm and dry instead.  But today was glorious, I was still keen to get out and everything was ready, so I grabbed my bag of water bottles, and headed out.

Todays walk was a very simple run, from Hope-Under-Dinmore church, I crossed through the underpass, passed the residential area, crossed the field where I had previously found the dog collar, over the railway line, and onto a road which headed pretty much due west, and just skirted my 4-mile boundary for a couple of miles before crossing it.  It was all road walking, so easy on the feet, and although a pleasant, and visually lovely walk, it wasn't anything massively out of the ordinary.

However, I did realise quite early on that not walking for a week brings me out of my routines, and one of the things that I'd forgotten was my magic walking underpants.  Well, I suppose they're not magic, but very early on I realised the importance of the right underwear, and the problems associated with not wearing it.

Once I realised that I was going to be walking a fair amount, I started working on those things that were going to make my life better and easier.  A good pair of boots, for example.  Some water bottles.  A peaked cap.  And probably most importantly, some compression underwear.  I never quite got over the fact that women's compression underwear is all marketed as being about appearance, form, attractiveness and so on, whereas compression underwear for men is all about sport, performance, power, sleek streamlining, and not (as is the case with me) as a deterrent to stop your fat thighs from chafing.  I've put on a few pounds as I settled into middle age, I'm not ashamed to admit it, and my thighs rub together when I go out for a walk, something which may prevent me from wanting to go out as regularly as I do.  I've made sure to be wearing one of my three pairs of compression underwear every walk since I got them..... until today.  Yes, I forgot to put them on, and it was only about half a mile into the walk that I realised.

You'll be pleased to know that no lasting harm has been done, and it was a good reminder that I need to plan and prepare every walk, and that I can't just nip out when I feel like it.  Also, with work picking up, I do need to work out how I'm going to get more walks in when I'm working 5 days a week, but that's a worry for another day.  So..... this walk.   As I said, not much out of the ordinary - all the ingredients were there, so I'm just going to put the pictures up and let them speak (pretty much) for themselves.

I did start with a nice tumbledown farm building!
