i went to pompei this past weekend. we stayed in a really nice hotel in sorrento called hotel michelangelo. the food was actually good! but they did some weird ass combos of things. part of our dinner on saturday night was peas, egg, beef and french fries. who the hell puts that shit together? they were probably like, oh this stuff is all american so lets give it to them. the desserts were good too.
pompei though was the highlight. it was amazing. it is litteraly a city. you can walk down the streets and see where all the stores were and how they were set up. you can tell some stores were like food joints b/c they had counters with pots built into the countertops. you could really get the sense of what it was like to live in a roman town in ancient times. whats also amazing is when you stand in the forum there you get a perfect view of mount vesuvius. i could imagine sort of what it was like to be walking to say like the court house that day in your tunic and palla and all a sudden the mountain explodes. i already knew that the roman civilization was advanced but i never got to witness 1st hand how much. to walk into the bathes and see how they heated up the water was so cool. also they did something that half the time i wish they could do now. the crosswalks for the streets where elevated stone with openning for cartwheels to go thru. this way when you crossed the street you didnt get your clothes all dirty from the rain water or mud. we couldnt do that in the u.s. though, people would total their cars on it b/c they cant drive. but i really loved it there. its an experience that you cant totally put to words b/c even more than in roma you realize you are walking where ancient people walked and shopped just like you do now.
oh, before we went to pompei, on friday we went to paestum, which was a greek colony in italy. there were tons of greek colonies in italy. naples and even pompei where originally greek. but it was cool. saw some greek temples and witnessed 1st hand how much differennt they are from roman temples.
sat night in sorrento i watched the sweetest thing which was on the tv. then we went to a dance club. i had a good time, but the guys there were mighty freaky. they all danced like strippers, or tried. they were ugly too. one guy kept on being like "im italian" and i was like that nice im not. but it was fun. before we went out i was in a horrible mood b/c it took us forever to get out and the place i did want to go to was charging. but overall it was fun.
sunday we went to the museum in naples to see the artifacts of pompei. it was so cool to see all the plates and stuff they used there. people ate off of that stuff. we also saw some statues from herculaneum and this room of exotic pompei art. ok, theres this one bathhouse in pompei and i dont know how to describe it without cracking up. it had statues and frescos of guys with huge penises and then all these frescos of different sex postions and stuff. they had windchimes with little penises with wings on them. i was laughing do hard. there was one statue that had a satur fucking a goat. i got pictures, so dont worry. but it was entertaining. after the museum, i went out to eat with leah, dee, johanna and jess. we got chinese. the menu had "chinese pizza" on it. and i was like sweet! i got it, and it was not chinese pizza. it was completely different. i also got fried veggies. but then later that night when i got home i was in the bathroom constantly. i think i went to the bathroom like 5 times in like 45 min or an hour. oh well. but it was a good time and everyone should go to pompei. ok, now im going to go do work or either nap since my stomach is still doing some acrobatics. ciao ragazzi.
