Power play within and without

Jan 04, 2008 11:57

Outside the wind and rain are tearing through the trees as they jerk and bow, making the power of the elements visible to the inside world.  The cubicle dwellers behind their glass and plastic barricades would not know this mighty power if not for the tales of broken branches and debris.  In their cocoon of heaters, florescent lighting, water coolers, warm tea kettles and coffee pots, the powers that be are unseen, unheard, and intangible. They manifest themselves in boxes, emails, conference calls, bits of words overheard by the water cooler and sometimes even golf courses. I pull the blinds up and watch the one lonely duck downstairs struggling in the wind and the waves of the pond bellow. A seagull attempts to fly by, the wind almost smashes him into the window as he frantically battles the current. Then I look in and see the weapons of the cubicle wars: the mini golf course, empty boxes and blank monitors. This corporate power play is just a game, and can remain just that if we do not foster and shelter it inside our minds.
