Ben Franklin went into Hudson County Pigeon Club last Saturday to record our new record, Optimist, with Daniel Schlett. We managed to do all the tracking for 12 songs (sans vocals) live in just under 8 hours of recording. We spent about 3 hours setting up drum mics, amp sounds, fucking with pedals and weird old gear. Today's first demo is just a pair of riff ideas that I like a lot. The drums intentionally sound kinda Afrikaa Bambataa cheez. The guitars sound raunch, which is not quite what I wanted, should have mic'd instead of going direct, but it's just something to work over. I'll have to do those again. Meltdowns are playing again, this Saturday, in Greenpoint.  After-party at my place.  We booked some really fantastic bands to play with us, should be quite a party, literally, all evening.  Starts at 8pm, at Matchless, which is on Manhattan & Driggs.  Free show, 21+.  We're on last, at 11.

Holy crap, there is a lot of awesome music going down over this next week or so, just according to this guy. I've also taken to picking up Showpaper to see what's going on. There's always some good music to see in this town.
