We went to the Dragon*Con staff meeting on Sunday, and we wound up being late.
I didn't know about a walk that was being held down town. Just as we exited on International Boulevard, an Atlanta police officer stopped traffic. Then there was a flood of people who were walking for something. Some of them carried signs for various churches. There were brakes in the walkers, were the officer could have stopped them, and let us through, but he didn't. There was a guy in a cab next to us, and after we'd been stopped for five to ten minutes, he walked up to the police officer to ask him how long this would be. The officer told him traffic would be stopped until the walk was done.
After we'd been stopped for 10-15 minutes, some people started honky. The sanctimonious bastards who were walking started waving back at those of us who were stuck there.
These people had no idea how rude they were being. They were holding traffic up, and some of them were making light of the fact. One guy even took off his hat and bowed to all of us who were trapped by them.
I try to be courteous to everyone. I try to think of my actions and how they impact others. On the other hand, a person who is being rude to me, regardless of whether its intentional or not, deserves no courtesy. They deserve nothing but contempt. Whenever, those bastards waved at me, I flipped them off.
Then I found out it was some sort of march for hunger. Like I give a crap about hunger. We live in a semi socialist nation, there's no damned excuse for anyone to go hungry. We live in a country where everyone has access to a free education. While some people have crappy parents who have kids that they can't afford, that doesn't excuse anyone from taking advantage of the freedoms and being able to make a living.
Go to high school, join the Army at 18, and the military will pay for your college. Pay attention a little in high school in Georgia, and you can go to college for free. It's not easy for everyone, but it's achievable for everyone.
Why should I care about poverty? Poor people had their shot at success, and through their choices, they wound up poor. Stupidity should be painful.
