Environmental Conflicts

I don’t know why I even bother sleeping in. Nightmares await in the waking world. This morning I didn’t even have myself punched in yet before I was cornered with my first issue of the day, that I have been working on for over an hour and a half now.

Basically, I need to connect to a printer mapped on the Terminal Server using a Windows XP machine. Every time I tried, I got an error that either the printer name was incorrect or it had lost its connection to the server. I ended up discovering that this does not happen on Windows 2000 machines. It works just fine on those. It’s looking more and more like a conflict between Windows 2K server and XP clients but the only fix that sounds even similar right now is a one requiring registry changes on both the clients and the server itself, which is an impossibility right now.

Such a pain in the ass. I wanted to sleep in and feel rested and I walk right into a lion’s den. I already had a list of to-do’s this morning, all of which have been pushed off. And on top of all that, for the past two days now I have felt like I have something in my right eye lash, and I pick at it all day, but there’s nothing there. But, I can see something in the light. Argh!

Last night I decided to attempt to understand how to do my taxes. They ditched Tele-file which I’ve used for years in lieu of e-file, which is a confusing nightmare. From my basic understanding (and I may be a prick, but I am not stupid) IRS.gov doesn’t have any place for people to do their taxes. They have to link off site to these other providers and determine whether or not they can do them for free as well as get this PIN code which was about an 8.5 on the Confuse-The-Fuck-Out-Of-Me scale.

In the huge mess of things I somehow found the form I needed and did a trial run of my federal. Now I must have done something wrong, because according to the numbers I’ll be getting close to $2500 BACK. I’ve been lucky in the past to maybe get $1000, which included my state and federal. I do now know how it could be possible I’d get back that much money. Is it cause of the two W2’s? Did I work that much overtime? Is it because I claimed zero on my W4? I don’t want to get too excited about it until I do them again with someone who can check my numbers but holy shit. My mind is already racing with what to do with the money.

New computer? It’d be enough to pay off my Discovercard. Vacation? New bed? Security deposit on a new apartment somewhere else (yes, I am still debating moving as usual.. it’s a yearly tradition)? Savings account?

You’d think it was a million dollars how excited over it I am... if it’s actually what I am getting. Ugh! This printer issue is going to be the bane of my week.
