Title: Lightning.

But lightning can strike twice.
It isn't likely and definitely isn't something he'd put money on. But completely eliminating it from the realm of possibility?
Well. Isn't that a little bit extreme?
Let's rewind time and take a look for a second; go back to that first kiss.
Yes, he remembers the one. (Maybe a little too well perhaps, but that's really not the point.)
It's raining like there's no tomorrow. He's just fired her and she's just suggested that they could have sex.
He's pretty sure he's one hundred percent in love with her already.
They stand, toe to toe. He feels her breath, hot on his lips; feels her blue blue eyes reach down inside of him and grab his heart.
In this moment, he is Booth and she is Bones.
And this is their very first kiss.
Tongue meets tongue, her hand meets his chest and his hand meets her arm.
For the first time since he can ever remember, lightning strikes.

He tells her he's a gambler (that's one little part of the everything that she already knows about him, but here... in this context... it means something completely different).
He rolls the dice. Puts all his cards on the table; hopes she will too.
And he kisses her.
Feels the soft (momentary) agreement in her lips.
And just like that, lightning strikes once more.

That was then, and this is now.
He's still in her office, grinning at her because that's what she makes him do.
There is work to be done; they have to figure things out (and they will, they always do).
Sure, there will be looking. There will be fighting. And pushing. And pulling. And testing. And bendingandbreakingand--
Love.
There, most definitely, will be love.
It won't be immediate; instead opting for subtle. So much so, that they might not even notice at first.
But that's okay.
What's important is that it's there, lingering in the air between them where that thing used to be.
And lightning?
It will strike them again.
