And So It Begins

It is another glorious day in paradise. The dawn chorus is full of birds sweetly singing “Mine! Mine! Mine!” The golden sun is slanting through the brand new light green oak leaves, just unfurled in the past week. The rhododendron in front of my kitchen window is just about to burst forth in bright purple blossoms. The skies are blue, the early ( Read more... )

This made me grin. I've been to many places where tourists are, at best, tolerated. NYC, Miami, Ft Lauderdale. But there are a few gems where visitors are treated well, especially if you keep coming back. The Outer Banks stands out. The Florida Keys. Charleston. I've never been to Cape Cod and have always wanted to go. Do the businesses and attractions board themselves up just after tourist season and stay boarded up till the next year (much of OBX does) or is it worth trying to get there slightly off-season?

The official season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. In fact, things start up in mid-May and usually run until October. Spring is usually cold and delayed here, but so is Fall, both because of the influence of the Atlantic. Fall is a great time to visit ( ... )

Jeeze Bill ;

You've got me remembering those HCS Summer Road Trips in the 1960's ~ pile 10 ~ 15 bratty unhappy , unwanted kids into a rusted out vehicle and dump them all out somewhere .

Cape Cod was terrific ! back then not awful traffic and those wonderful bike trails were all new .

I was told " ! no $ for bicycles ! " so I simply walked them for hours , not much traffic , lots of little dead end ways to go to remote beaches or picnic areas sheltered from the wind .

IIRC I even found some wild Sassafras , that's what I was told it was , I dug up some roots and made nice tea .

Good times to be sure ! .

I have not been there since the 1980's at beast , back when I was still married .

I vividly remember sleeping on Salisbury Beach for a week. That was the trip I started by ripping my one pair of jeans. That was also the trip after which I began to pack a sewing kit everywhere...
