Okay, I have to admit to being one of the many Canadians suffering from Obama envy. Especially now when all we have is Stephen Harper (who could probably make even the most exciting passages from Harry Potter snooze-worthy). Even Michael Ignatieff doesn't excite me very much. So I'm enjoying Obama from a distance.
Today feels like it was all about enjoyment, from the pomp and ceremony to the endless line of great marching bands to Aretha Franklin's hat (wasn't that hat awesome?). And given the excuse to celebrate, I discovered the delectable devourableness of roasted chickpeas. Vegans really know how to throw a party, don't they? I guess all this happiness is why I also liked Obama's address so much. It was a gentle but firm reminder that he means business when the party's over.
And I also decided, since it's such a special *ahem* American occasion, that nobody would mind my taking time out of regular choir practice to teach Simple Gifts to the 4-6 kids. Just a tiny piece of such a really special culture.
