I was never a fan of Mike Shula's firing from the head coaching position at the University of Alabama. They were getting back on their feet and he seemed to be at the helm of the ship directing down the right course. One of the biggest problems was that Alabama lost 5 in a row to "that little cow school."
If Mike Shula had only won 5 games in his entire career at Alabama...and they all were against Auburn, it's plausible to think that he could still be the head coach.
Fast-forward to this season. The hiring of Nick Saban (former NFL coach of the Dolphins and former coach of intra conference-rivals Louisiana State University) has definitely brought Alabama back into limelight. The last time 'Bama was in the limelight, it wasn't good. This is refreshing.
UA rolled up on Western Carolina (a I-AA) squad last night 52-6. It's a great start for the season. A great start for the Nick Saban-era. The game won't mean anything. This season won't mean anything.
The only thing that matters this year to Tide fans (wrong or right) is November's 24th Iron Bowl.
