Secondhand Lions
Last night, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers upended the Colorado College Tigers 3-2 in Colorado Springs, CO. Couple that victory with the University of Wisconsin Badgers beating our mighty St. Cloud State University Huskies (in Madison where the Huskies haven't won since the Eisenhower administration) and you get a 6 point lead for the Gophers in the "race" for the WCHA league title.
And you bet I'm happy with it. Sure it's not over and the Gophers/Huskies still have a huge weekend with 4 points at stake coming up next weekend and anything can certainly happen in the league but no one really wants to win the MacNaughton Cup anyway. The Gophers stole it from out under the Badgers' noses last season and bowed out in the first round of the NCAA playoffs.
Critics will say "yeah well..the Huskies always bow out in the first round of the playoffs."
And, of course, I have no retort.
But still.
If I had to choose between racing to win a stupid old cup from Houghton Freakin' Michigan...or a boring little plaque in St. Louis, Missourah...I go with option 2.
