This weekend, we were due to play a team called Bosham on Saturday ... however ... they cancelled on us during the week for the 2nd year running. Somehow, I think they may be dropped from our fixture list ;) Anyway, the skipper decided that it was best to have a game against another team on the Sunday rather than no cricket at all, so we lined up a game against Fair Oak.
With the threat of rain looming in the air for later on in the day, we got underway promptly at 1pm. They started brightly, although they lost wickets early, being 3 wickets down for just 11. At this point, they had a rather nice partnership of some 67 with a few lusty blows going straight ... clearly they had found the middle of the bat ... although they were helped by a couple of ragged overs from James White who seemed to have lost his line for some reason. I replaced him and prompty got knocked around for the odd boundary too :(
However, I came back and got two quick wickets, including their in form batsman, who had made 38, courtesy of a nice catch at slip. Another over returned a third wicket with a clean bowled (always the best way to take a wicket).
Wickets were also falling at the other end too and they were in the middle of an IBM-esque collapse! John made a bowling change and Ryan came on to bowl and he promptly bowled their number 11 - a girl too, how mean! ;)
So, from 78-3 they were all out for 90.
As the tea hadn't actually arrived yet, we went out to bat and Paul and Craig opened and chugged along at a fair pace until we'd got to 80-odd when Craig was out (can't remember how ... bowled I think) for a well made 36 with the wicket falling to their best bowler on the day, who was extracting more bounce and pace than any of the previous competitors. Trev went out to bat and got a huge ovation when he got off the mark ... and an even bigger cheer when he hit a four :) Paul finally saw us home via a pull shot to the square leg boundary and we'd won by 9 wickets.
Tea was had (very nice too) and everyone was home by 4.30!
Bit sad that I didn't get to bat, but I did bowl so can't complain :)
