Things I loved:

♥ Star Trek reference. I AM THIS EASY TO PLEASE. I wish I knew if Sam was into Star Trek as much as Dean is. I want to imagine that they have TOS marathons and Sam insists Kirk and Spock are totally gay while Dean argues that they totally aren't when secretly he agrees and has watched ST3 a lot while nodding and going, "yep, you sacrifice everything for people you love. Ships, souls, all in a day's work."

♥ Dean's western geekery and POSSE, he looked so adorable and pleased at his dirty pun, and then when he tries to look serious and can't help smiling at Sam again? This leads me to...

♥ SAM AND DEAN HAVE BEEN REALLY GETTING ALONG AND BEING IN SYNC AND SHIT. I MISSED THIS.

♥ Castiel kicking some ass, even though ONCE AGAIN, the character to betray him and die was a female who was just introduced to die. Still, I enjoyed the ass kickery.

♥ I KEEP FORGETTING THINGS, but Sam announcing that he and Dean were looking for a man and the judge immediately going, "I'll bet." Sure it doesn't make a lot of sense because I don't think the general American west culture immediately assumed two dudes dressed fancy=gay yet, but I don't care because IT'S BEEN TOO LONG SINCE SAM AND DEAN HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN AS A GAY COUPLE.

Things I didn't care for

-Samuel Colt. Oh he was all fine enough, but I've seen this character in a million tv shows and movies, and it's a small letdown because I don't know why but I always pictured him as young and hot and having a part of the Winchester mythos, like he's sort of like Sam with demon blood or something to that nature.

-The ending. I'm getting tired of Bobby getting roughed up for little reason, but that pales in comparison to Dean being so busy strutting around playing cowboy that he FORGOT TO GET THE PHOENIX ASHES BEFORE TIME RAN OUT. I mean, this is the same stupidity we saw in the episode where he plays death and takes the ring off to save an already suicidal guy when HELLO, you brother's soul depends on your actions. Of course they end up getting the ashes anyway, but once again, Dean ended up getting Sam's soul back anyway, so it's just lazy writing that whenever they fuck up, a convenient deus ex machina swoops in to save the day.

-Would it kill Dean to say a simple 'thank you' to Castiel? It has to be Sam that points out to Dean that Castiel is fried and can't send them back and yet Dean manages to ask Bobby if he's okay right after that and fucking hell, even says 'sorry' to Bobby and not Castiel too. Yeah, the show giveth slash in the last episode, and the show taketh away this episode. I just can't see Dean caring too much about Castiel because we get this shit time and time again. I mean, it's kind of a strange role reversal of early Sam and Dean, where you got the impression that Dean cared way more about Sam than Sam did about him, except that didn't last long and now there's no question that Sam is just as codependent as his brother. Three seasons after Castiel was introduced and still Dean can't treat him with decent courtesy. I almost wouldn't blame Castiel if he turned on them.

-Dean drops the Colt. Where is the colt anyway? I can't remember the last time it was used. Edit: Oh wait I just remembered that the gun kind of needs to stay so that it can be handed down, and also the bartender was named Elkins, so perhaps he was an ancestor of the Elkins who had the Colt before he was killed by vamps.

All in all though, it was a fairly good episode. I was disappointed with some things, but it's far from the worst episode and it didn't piss me off. I just think they lost a lot of good opportunities.
