Progress Report

Well, since my post back on January 20th, I've managed to avoid getting fast food (with the exception of Taco Time and Subway, but what I got there was pretty innocent compared to the TRIPLE BACON BEEFZILLA BURGER). I haven't really started exercising yet... but I did more or less officially start a diet. As of today, I'm going to be buying a lot ( Read more... )

Walk an hour every day. That's been the consistently effective portion of every weight-loss regimen that has worked for me.

A whole hour. Every day. It's very easy once you bring an iPod with some old radio shows or a book on it.

When I was on my diet (and believe me I know how rough it can be... I dropped 120 pounds... from over 400 down to 280) I found the following things helpful ( ... )

Woot! Good for you James. Being a busy office slave, I often ended up grabbing what I could when I could, which is terrible in so many ways. You've already figured out the number one thing that was hardest for me: sensible portions. Just because you CAN eat a triple bacon beefzilla burger doesn't mean you need to eat it to be full. I've gotten a lot better at paying attention to when my body says, "I'm full." Though I'm still a sucker for sushi...:D

The other thing that helped was getting a Mr Bento Lunch Jar. It doesn't look like it holds a lot of food, but it does. Very easy to portion out, very easy to make a well-rounded meal, which helps create fullness. Check out the Mr Bento Porn group on Flickr for cool ideas.

Two things:

- Slim Fast will probably do more to slim your bank account than your waist. Just eat healthy foods, and not so much. It's not rocket science.

- Why does a scale need a battery?

1) It's not rocket science... but if you don't have good cooking skills, don't have someone who lives with you who likes to cook, and often don't have time to cook anyway... Slim-Fast is a convenient choice. I'm willing to pay more for convenience.

2) A scale needs a battery if it's a digital scale. Although it turns out that the battery works... tis the scale itself what's malfunctioning, I think, which means buying a new one, which is more annoying than buying a battery.
