Age of Conan

So, it looks like my World of Warcraft addiction may be over. Because a huge bad-ass barbarian stomped in and beat it up.

Age of Conan may still have a few rough edges on it, and it certainly doesn't run as smoothly since my computer's no longer top of the line, but it runs well enough. And not only is it set in the world of one of my favorite authors (Robert E. Howard!), it captures the feel of that world quite well! I was hardly 30 minutes into the game before I was fighting freaky cannibalistic Picts and violent man-eating apes. I killed one of those huge apes and took his giant ruby as treasure. Now THAT'S adventure!

I'm sure I'll be heading back to Warcraft now and then, particularly once the next expansion comes out. I was just on there last night to check my mail, and it felt pretty cool again being able to fly around and having a good high frame rate... but there's still nothing much for me to do in Azeroth; I done did all the quests there are, really, except for the high-end raid stuff and that doesn't really interest me.

Meanwhile, in Conan, among other triumphs, I've already triggered the wrath of a volcano god by secretly swapping out whore's blood for the virgin blood the god's high priestess was going to use to placate it. Good times, good times.
