DWM #421 is out and reveals some casting news as regards Situation Vacant, the next audio adventure for Paul McGann's Doctor when the New Eighth Doctor Adventures returns to the Big Finish release schedule in July.
A permanent male companion would certainly be different to Charley and Lucie; as indeed we already have seen (or heard) with the non-terrestial C'rizz and the audio snapshot we had of Fitz in 'The Company of Friends'
Asha sounds so typically a Doctor Who companion that one cannot decide whether Big Finish are engaged in a game of double bluff as to the identity of the Doctor's new companion.
If this were the television series I'd say this was all just an exercise in delaying the inevitable before they selected Asha. HOWEVER, I have high hopes that BF goes in a different direction and gives Theo a go. I can't imagine the Doctor (or the listeners) enjoying a brave but dim companion. and I can't imagine this Doctor enjoying spending time with a "closer".
I guess I'm in the minority - I've never thought Jamie was dim. Oh, on occasion he didn't know when to keep his mouth shut, but the same could be said of others.
I dunno;; Theo sounds a bit self-insert if you know what I mean. What's wrong with super-geek Izzy instead?
But anyway, as far as dynamics go, I kind of like the sound of Hugh. But hey, I'm so far behind I still haven't listened to Lucie's going away story yet!

I think it would be good if Eight had a male companion.

I guess I was thinking Eight in particular. Upon reflection, I think Seven would enjoy Juliet quite a bit.
