Rammstein raped my eardrums and all I got was Till's man-chowder in my hair...

Last night I took a chance, spent a little more money than I probably should have, and went to Detroit's biggest concert venue to go see 6 Germans metal it up in the most epic way possible. And I regret NOTHING.

I just saw Rammstein in concert. I went to the concert as a boy....

And came back a GER-MAN!!!! HAH!

In any case the concert was absolutely awesome. Everyone who says that Rammstein do a great stage show is not lying.

I tried to get some friends to go, but they said it was "too expensive". Mind you I paid $50 for the grandstand seats, and there was $100 for the "floor seating" which wasn't seating at all, but a giant MOSH PIT. $50 for grandstands is nothing... I've seen same tickets go for over $100 for big bands easily. Plus, the last time Rammstein toured the USA was in 2001, over 10 years ago. And before that in 1998 where they got arrested for Till's fake penis in his pants squirting water at the crowd (NSFW). It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I took it and it was worth it!

In any case here's a list of songs with commentary, and in some cases, video. Most of the video's from Philly & Cleveland because it's clearer than the Detroit stuff...

The concert started out at 8:30pm (it was supposed to start at 8) with a guy doing Rammstein dubstep and I was worried that this would be the entire concert, and I'd have to run up to the stage and kill the guy or something.
Then, a catwalk lowered over the mosh pit between the main stage and a small aux stage in the middle of the pit. Rammstein walked down the stands and onto the small stage, and then across the catwalk onto the main stage, with Till carrying a torch and the other members carrying band flags.

  • Sonne (Detroit) - This had flames shooting up from the stage
  • Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen - Till stood in place while flames shot around him from under the stage
  • Keine Lust - smoke shot up from below the stage in columns
  • Sehnsucht - green flame surrounded the stage
  • Asche zu Asche
  • Feuer Frei - Explosions for the "Bang bang!", and Till wore a mask that shot flame out of the mouth.
  • Mutter - A blue-lit stage, and Till sung under a rain of sparks near the end.
  • Mein Teil - Possibly the best one, the keyboardist, who was usually playing while on a treadmill, got into a giant kettle that Till (dressed in a butcher outfit, covered with blood, carrying a butcher knife mic) would hit with a flamethrower at the bottom, and there would be a loud explosion under the kettle.
  • Du Riechst So Gut (D) - Flaming gutars, sparking bow
  • Links 2-3-4
  • Du Hast (D, better shot of the fireworks) - The audience sung the "du hast" verses. During the first Nein, flames would shoot up, then at the second Nein, flames would shoot down from above. After the last verse, before the last chorus, where the drum bit is, sparks flew over the mosh pit, ignited fireworks that shot back towards the stage, and then the entire stage exploded while Rammstein started the last chorus.
  • Haifisch - The keyboardist got into a giant inflatable boat and crowd-surfed the mosh pit.

Then the band said thank you and left. After the crowd went nuts for a few minutes, the bridge lowered, and the band crawled to the small aux stage, with one of the band members dressed as a woman leading the others on leashes just like the end of the Mein Teil video. On the mini-stage:
  • Buch Dich - Till sprayed water at the crowd out of a face mask while whipping another band member (in the Europe version, he has a fake penis that sprays water, and he humps the band member. Thanks Amerika).
  • Mann Gegen Mann
  • Ohne Dich - The stage was lit from below while fog surrounded the band.

Then they moved to the main stage. They disappeared for a bit then came back on again.
  • Mein Hertz Brennt
  • Amerika
  • Ich Will
  • Engel (D) - "Engel" = "Angel", and Till wears a pair of wings that shoot fire.
  • Pussy - Till rides around the stage riding a confetti cannon shaped like a penis, spraying the crowd with white confetti.

After the concert, I went back to where I thought my car was and couldn't find it. I was panicking, and trying to figure out how, in a guarded lot, anyone could take my car. It turns out I was looking on the wrong end of that row and once most people were gone I spotted it a distance away. But for a minute I was pretty devastated.

concert, rammstein
