Welding class

I don't even know if I'm going to pass the welding class, and if I don't, I may not get financial aid anymore.

See, in order to get grades you have to weld good welds. If they're not near perfect, they don't give you a grade for them. The school's financial aid office will sit there and think that I didn't study hard enough, as if it's as easy as completing tests and doing homework, and not melting two pieces of metal together at high temperatures.

We start off with oxyacetylene flame welding, flame cutting, TIG arc welding, stick arc welding, and then MIG arc welding. There's 3 weeks of class, and everyone else is on Stick or starting on MIG. I'm stuck on TIG.

I've come into school and worked for 2-3 hours outside of class THREE days now and I'm still not caught up. I occasionally weld a very good bead, but I can't duplicate my results for the life of me. Nervousness, stress, the heat of the shop, shaking hands, makes welds that are sound but imperfect. I just don't know WHAT to do. I need to catch up to the rest of the class, and I feel like worthless shit if I can't even keep up with the rest of the class.

I don't know why this stupid class is required for an auto certificate. How many mechanics out there do you think can weld right? Very few. It's not something most shops look for.
