Well part of my problem is being afraid that someone won't accept me for who I am, say if I ask them out, or they ask me out. I mean I assume that, because of the way I look, they'll know what kind of person I'll be, but that's not for certain. It would certainly be embarrassing if someone I ask out suddenly thought I was a big dork because I like, say, BSG.

That was pretty much the point of my post. I'm afraid of people not accepting me for who I am, so I tend to reject women unless they are into similar interests because then I KNOW they won't have any problems with me or my hobbies (because they like them as well). So instead of looking for mates amongst all women I only look for it within my own social circles and they tend to be taken already... or I don't have any female friends in my social circles (like in High School when 99% of my friends were male).

This is why I rejected quite a few date offerings in high school. Mind you they very rarely happened, but I had a few. One case it wasn't even worth it. But the other cases I was just afraid they'd get to know me and think I'm a dork and hate me because of it. :( Yea, I'm a big coward. :P

It's like this one girl I knew at my last job, she would flirt with me sometimes (whether it was innocent flirting and she flirts with all men, or if she had an interest in me I dunno...). And I thought, well, she's a nice girl but I'd probably bore her to death with anime and stuff, and what do we have in common anyway. At best she'd be bored and leave me, at worst she'd think I'm a nerd.

*stamps "Total Coward" on head* I guess I'm just too afraid to take risks when it comes to relationships.
