June 2, 2008, a tip of the hat to Reslbear on his birthday… CONGRATS KIDDO!
OKAY.. So.. I've gotten a bit behind in my postings here..
Been trying to have an actual life and get out a do things…LOL
The last update I did was KRAFTWERK I think.. And OH so much has happened since then.. Concerts.. Bear gatherings and seeing old friends and making new friends and , well..life in general..
I hope to catch up on the points of interest in the next week or so… BEAR WITH ME
MY LATEST ADVENTURE was of course seeing the "Sex and The City" movie this past Saturday..with a contingent from the local chapter of ' Minneapolis Movie Bears'
.. AHHH.. The Opulence of 'The CITY' and the Fashion.
( Can YOU say 'FASHION WEEK' and first row seats for four at Bryant Park????)
AH.. The VINO and Bubbly flowed "BOTTLE",
AH.. The 'Catty' remarks flew "Shave MUCH??"
...and good times, and bad were shared between those gal pals ... and us .. their old friends
…and WHO can forget THAT BREATHTAKING APARTMENT (supposedly on 5th Ave I believe), and THAT CLOSET - WOW !
(I've heard tales that the viewers in S.F. Ca. laughed at themselves when they realized the noise created when all gasped and took a deep breath as the camera panned the "White" carpet...lol)
Then there was… of course ..THE SHOES .. Manolo Blahnik, Christian Laboutin, Jimmy Choo
The WEDDING DRESSES ! ! ! Lanvin.. Marchesa.. Vera Wang.. Nina Ricci.. Alexander McQueen.. Dolce & Gabbana.. Versace'.. and Vivienne Westwood!
Mind you, it's NOT that I am one to want to wear women's clothing . .
but I DO have GREAT RESPECT FOR and appreciation OF the manipulation of COLOR/FORM and ART and FASHION and the execution of a FLAWLESS 'GOWN' where all those factors are BOLDLY EVIDENT . .
Movies like 'The Devil Wears Prada", TV Shows like Project Runway and such are NOT lost on me . . (LOL) I make custom jewelry, do hand beading of items AND I own a sewing machine, also a 4-spool serger.. And have taken the Purple Ribbon for hand embroidery in a county fair setting after which I was quickly invited to show my wears at the State Fair.. but needing that main item in hand to be a vendor at the local Renaissance Festival the same year, for the same craft (which is a 'juried' entrance) . . I chose the later and was well received there.
I DO after all, work for a small consortium of boutiques many know simply as a 'needless mark-up' type of establishment(G). BUT..ALAS the 'names' these babes were wearing are somewhat of an everyday thing to me…(Luckily for me.. Sticker shock is still possible) and yet even I was moved by how pretty Carrie Bradshaw (SJP) looked in those gowns. You can all me an old softie.. But I was absolutely awe-struck and brought to tears by how beautiful she looked in this little smock thrown together by DIOR for her ! An IMMEDIATE 'CLASSSIC' of early-to- mid-century art deco-like lines and a bit of whimsy… SIMPLY STUNNING. (Photo from the current "REAL" issue of VOGUE.. complete with the background story of how the current issue of Vogue "sort of mirrors the SAC movie")
So…..a good time was had by all, and 'the Fashion Police' and hall monitors were afoot after the movie… (overheard in the crowd) "WELL.. It seems it was about 150 straight women, 40 or so GAY MEN and 2 straight men who looked a tad-bit confused"
But, it seemed all enjoyed it and came away with a bit more depth to the characters from the TV show.. And maybe some will take time to reflect on their own lives about the messages the movie puts forth..
Life and Love are about trust and forgiveness.. Friends remain FRIENDS..no matter WHAT the distance.. And there IS life after 50.. YES even for Samantha...( And JAMIE... SMOOCH ! ) G
