A couple weeks ago Joba Chamberlain, rookie phenom pitcher for the New York Yankees threw two balls over the head of Kevin Youkilis and was immediately ejected without any warning. The next day, word came that the Yanks successfully pleaded their case and got him off with only a two game suspension rather than three, arguing that they had no reason to throw at Youk, leading 5-0 in the third game in New York after beating the Sox the prior two nights.
Well tonight, in a 1-1 tie game, Joba put three pitches within about two inches of Jacoby Ellsbury's chin.
I don't think Joba has the kind of control problems that would result in two "mistake" pitches behind a batter's head. I don't care if we are talking about a lefty hitter rather than a righty. The control he's shown is much too pinpoint.
