Emmys

I’m having this weird DNW reaction to Downton Abbey’s Emmy noms. Not because I don’t love the show, but because it’s British, and despite the fact that it’s co-bankrolled by an NBC subsidary, it just seems odd to have a foreign show taking so many major noms at the Emmys. I dunno. I mean, I’m foreign myself (Canadian, obviously), and I love England, love the show, etc. But it bothers me.

Maggie Smith and Joanne Froggat are wonderful, but it just got even harder for someone like Morena Baccarin to be recognized for the amazing work she’s done on Homeland. DA’s level of soapiness got a little out of hand in S2, but it’s British and historical, so it’ll still be respected in a way that another soapy show never would be.

Anyway. For some reason, foreign miniseries being nominated has never bothered me, so I don’t know why this does. It’s totally irrational, but there it is. DNW.

Oh, and American Horror Story was a miniseries? LOL, good to know! Happy for Connie’s nom (although would have loved for her to get it for her stellar work on FNL) , but that show was a clusterfuck. Entertaining as hell until the terrible ending (oh, Ryan Murphy - you always have to ruin things in some regard), but it wasn’t exactly great television. Fun TV, yes. But there’s a distinction, IMO.

But yaaaay for Damian Lewis and the other Homeland nods! Rooting for them all the way. And really happy for Jared Harris’s unexpected (to me, anyway) Mad Men nod. He was fantastic and heartbreaking this season.

let me tell you how i really feel, random tv, homeland, fnl
