Geeks Unite

Had a wonderful long weekend with bliss_. We went to Fan Expo, aka Toronto Comic-Con. Much fun and fangirl geekiness was had. The con has gotten bigger and better in the last few years, and there was a very tempting array of merch to spend our money on.

Harry's my fave character, but this just made me laugh and I couldn't resist!

My top two moments of the con were:

1. Everything involving Tom Felton, who was just a darling boy and really gave his all. He signed autographs all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as doing photo ops. His panel on Sunday was the last one of the con, and it was awesome. He called Harry/Draco fanfic "pleasantly bizarre" and said, in regards to H/D fanart, that when he and Dan actually had sex in real life, they "definitely didn't take pictures."

:D :D :D

He really was delightfully charming and well spoken and lovely. Oh, he also said that he wanted to handcuff Daniel. Context: the last couple of years of shooting, everyone's cars were searched when they left the studio to make sure they weren't stealing any props. He and Daniel decided to handcuff Dan and gag him with duct tape and put him in Tom's trunk -- aka "boot" -- as a prank. Sadly they never actually did it, but A+++++++++ for the idea, boys!

Obviously I didn't take these -- it's just easier to let the paps do it!

2. Actually coming across another Band of Brothers fan! I spotted the spade on his helmet and remarked to bliss_ that it looked like a BoB paratrooper helmet, but surely wasn't. Then I saw the Airborne patch on his sleeve and I was like, OMG HE REALLY IS DRESSED UP LIKE BAND OF BROTHERS. I got a picture and told him I love BoB, and he was like, THANK YOU FOR ACTUALLY KNOWING WHAT I'M DRESSED AS. Apparently people kept thinking he was from Call of Duty or Captain America. I belatedly realized I should have said, "Flash!" when I went up to him. (And he would have said "Thunder!"; it was a D-day code for soldiers to recognize allies.)

We also saw Eliza Dushku (lord, she's so beautiful; thin, but gorgeous) and Katee Sackhoff (also beautiful, and hilarious in her panel). Sam Trammell was a last-minute no-show, which irritated me. Apparently he had twins a few weeks ago and didn't want to leave home. But dude, you made a commitment, and it's not as if the birth was, you know, unexpected. The con could have brought in a replacement if he'd given them more notice. It's not like I'm some giant True Blood fan in the first place, but I felt really bad for the girls dressed in Sookie waitress costumes who were only there to see Sam.

All in all a really fun weekend. I always enjoy the fan spirit at these events; it's good to spend time with your people. Even if we're fans of different things, we all share that common bond. Good times.
