Meep. I'm going to miss you, Hendricksons!
I knew as soon as Carl showed up that Bill was toast. Watched way too much TV, I guess, but it was so obvious. I'd been waiting for something to happen, and when Bill was scribbling away (I assume about how women can indeed have the priesthood), I had a deep suspicion his hours were numbered. Bill was never my fave character, but despite his faults, he was a good man and I really liked that they had him doing the Safety Net thing this season (and great for Nicki, too).
I really loved this season, and I think they wrapped it up really well. It made me cry when Barb couldn't get baptized, and then I was sobbing at the end with the three wives hugging each other. Awwwww. Yay for Margie getting to travel and expand her world, and for Barb finding her voice in the church, and Nicki for opening up finally. Such a great progression for her character over the years, and redeeming her without ever losing her selfishness and pettiness. I've always loved her relationship with Barb, so fraught with tension and jealousy, but also so loving at times. It was great when Barb taught her to dance earlier in the season. Also loved how, when Bill's mom told Barb she wished he'd never married her, Nicki gasped, "Lois!" Even when the wives fought amongst themselves, they always had each other's backs when facing opposition from outsiders.
And Heather and Ben getting married! And Sarah and whatshisname having a baby! Cara Lynn with her hair down! It was lovely to see them all thriving. I wish there'd been one last Alby scene, or some follow-up to what happened to him, but I assume he's going to be be in jail for life after what he did (since I presume he killed the guard). Alby was one of the most original characters on TV. Such a great and complicated villain -- and one who broke my heart sometimes. Matt Ross seriously deserves an Emmy nom.
