I'm so sad about
the death of Brendan Burke, who was the son of Toronto Maple Leaf's GM Brian Burke. I don't follow hockey very closely at all, but I'd heard of Brendan when he came out via
this ESPN column, which got a fair amount of media coverage in Toronto.
Brendan was the first person connected to the NHL to publically come out, and it was so great that his dad, who is one of those hard-edged, tough-as-nails hockey guys, was so supportive of him. Brian Burke brought his son up to Toronto for Pride in the summer and said that he'd go on a float in the parade next year if they asked him. And now his son is dead and it just breaks my heart.
Well, this is a cheery post. I'm sick with strep throat and now I'm going to eat ice cream and watch something fluffy.
