Little of this, little of that

You know how sometimes you'll see a movie at the video store, and it stars great actors, but you've never heard of it and usually there's a reason for that? (The reason being that the movie stinks.) Yesterday I came across Nearing Grace, starring my old Everwood jailbait boyfriend, Gregory Smith. Never heard of it and assumed it would be crappy, but I figured I'd take a chance. Lo and behold, it was a lovely little movie!

Greg plays a very Ephram-ish character (right down to the recently deceased mother) who struggles with his loving, but drunk and grieving father, played by the always-great David Morse. Ephram 2.0 is also in love lust with the local teen harlot and has a Joey Potteresque BFF (right down to climbing in each other's windows). On a shallow note, Greg looks v.v. good in this film. But more than that, he's really just such a terrific actor. I'd forgotten how he has the ability to break my heart in the blink of an eye. Man, he's good. My love for him has been rekindled big time.

Why hello, pot-smoking Ephram 2.0!

So cute. I'd crawl for him, too.

Smoking and dancing around in his crush's underwear:

I don't know whether to kiss him or hug him.

The BFF:

I really, really liked this movie. It didn't break any new ground, but it was very satisfying and well done. It's been ages since I watched Everwood, and now I feel like busting out S1 and/or hunting down all the other indie movies Greg's done the last couple of years. Namely Kids in America and Book of Love.

I also rented Rock Haven, which was unbearably dreadful. Plot was right up my alley on paper, but the acting, directing, pacing and pretty much everything about this movie was awful. Don't waste your time.

Much more entertaining in a completely predictable Disney way was The Rock's new flick The Game Plan. It hit every cliche in the book and was overlong, but The Rock is just so charming and adorable. I ::heart:: him.

I'm now all caught up on 30 Rock, which is solidly entertaining and funny. Love the characters and actors, and it's the little moments that really make me laugh. Such as, "Ziggy from the cartoon Ziggy." Heeeeeee. I think my fave bit overall is in 102 on Tracy's stolen boat when he asks Jenna to sing and she doesn't even take a breath before launching into Billy Joel. I'm still giggling about that.

The actors are all fantastic, and I've always loved Tina Fey. Alec Baldwin is just perfect. They all are! Such a fun show.

"Ricky Martin was here?" Oh, Zac Efron. How I love. bliss_, we totally have a date to see HSM 3 in the theatre. Also that Big redux, 17 Again. August! Shia's new movie is out in August, too. August will be a good month for jailbait-y boyfriends.

On a semi-related note, it saddens me that Elijah Kelley hasn't done more movies. I'm glad to hear he's starring in a new step-dancing flick, though. He's so cute and talented, and I hope he gets more roles.

So it turns out Noah will marry Ameera, clearly for green-card reasons. So the question becomes is she really his sister? That was everyone's assumption, and it may turn out to be the case; if so, I assume that revelation would be further down the road. There's also the possibility that she's conning Noah, but somehow I can't see them making a young Iraqi woman a villain. Highly unlikely.

According to TiVo, we're finally meeting her on Friday. I really, really hope I like the actress. Unlike most of fandom, I want to like Ameera. I really have no issues at all with Noah and Luke having drama and angst -- hi, it's a soap opera. My only issue with the show is the continued lack of kissing. Obviously the hugging has been dialed up to 11, and I really hope this is designed to acclimate the homophobes before they bring back the kissing again.

I know many people are getting really bitter about it, which I totally understand. Believe me, I'm bitter about the lack of kissing. I've sent my letters and will send more. It's just my nature to focus on the positive, so I'm seeing the glass as half full and keeping optimistic for the future. I'm excited Noah and Luke are going to get way more screentime. I think it would be great if Luke got a new love interest soon -- someone who was out and proud and didn't have Noah's issues. So then he'd be torn between his love for Noah and this shiny new guy who doesn't have a sham marriage, etc. Then Noah would make some big, dramatic attempt to win Luke back, and they'd live happily ever after.

At least I can write some fanfic, heh. Hey, did anyone write a gapfiller for the VD cheesefest? That was a 24-hour shore leave!

SCC continues to be awesome. I guess it was inevitable that they cast someone as Kyle, and at least it was someone I love. I have no idea what happened to Jonathan Jackson's career the past few years, but it's nice to see him again. Lucky Spencer was one of the best soap characters ever. (I mean only as portrayed by JJ, since I stopped watching the show when he left and for all I know Lucky is now a rapist or something.) At first I thought we were seeing Kyle a few years before he went back for Sarah, but clearly not. I find it odd, since JJ is only 26. He's just not at all manly enough to compare with Michael Biehn. Still, nice to see him.

zac, scc, luke/noah, fangirl alert!, movies
